“Portraits and More” exhibit featured at UW-Sheboygan

EducationSHEBOYGAN — Area residents are invited to visit the University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan Fine Arts Gallery for its latest art exhibit, “Portraits and More” by local watercolor artist Jean Tobin through March 1.

An opening reception has been planned for Thursday, February 7 from 5 PM to 7 PM in the gallery. The public is invited.

Tobin, a UW-Sheboygan Professor Emerita of English with the University of Wisconsin Colleges and published author, began painting in 2001. Tobin’s latest artwork focuses variety of new subject matter and painting techniques.

Tobin received her Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She also has studied at the Universite de Paris and the University of Edinburgh, and taken NEH summer seminars at New York University and Cornell.  Active in the land preservation movement, she co-founded the Sheboygan Area Land Conservancy.

Her paintings can be seen regularly at Two Fish Gallery in Elkhart Lake and at the Jura Silverman Gallery (Wisconsin Artists’ Showcase) in Spring Green, Wisconsin. She is also a member of the Wisconsin Watercolor Society and a lifetime member of the Transparent Watercolor Society of America.

The Fine Arts Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 9 AM to 9 PM and Friday from 9 AM to 6 PM. Most of the paintings will be available for purchase.
