SHEBOYGAN — As Sheboygan County prepares for another round of snow Tuesday, city officials are reminding residents to keep the sidewalks cleared of snow.

According to the Department of Public Works, home owners or occupant(s) must clear snow and ice from the full width of sidewalks adjacent to their property within 48 hours. This goes for unoccupied homes, buildings and lots.

When ice has formed on any sidewalk that it is difficult or impossible to remove, the owner or occupant is expected to keep the sidewalk sprinkled with salt, sand or any other chemical ice remover if they are unable to remove the ice with shovel.

If a sidewalk remains snow- or ice-covered for a day after the warning is issued, then the city will have the sidewalk cleared and bill the property owner for the cost.

Several properties on the city’s south side were still covered with snow and ice Tuesday morning.

Residents wishing to report a violation are encouraged to call DPW at (920) 459-3440 or submit a report on the city’s website.

So: I have a followup question: Did you try making contact with the business you photographed? Perhaps

Or do you just have a habit of one-sided reporting? While it is a plain view I’m pretty sure you didn’t seek their permission to photograph the area, either.

It is not your journalistic responsibility to shame local businesses into action, Asher.

Practice what you preach because it seems the city is the worst about not maintaining sidewalks they are respondsible for. Set an example why don’t you or fine yourselves!

When we got all that rain that turned into ice, by day 2 we had it all chipped off the sidewalk. We live on a corner and there’s no way someone is going to “fall”, claiming injury along with $12 million

Why would they plow a firer hydrant with snow, even when its last on a dead end road. It was completly under the snow. And I have driven all kinds of equipment and could regulate where it will land. Just because these guys work for the city does not make them good drivers.

  • YeahSheb

You clear your sidewalks and the city goes by so fast with the plows you can here the snow hitting the house. If they would just slow down the sidewalks would stay clear longer….

Sidewalks should be clear in 48 hrs but yet it took how long for the streets to be cleared??? And don’t even get me started on all the potholes and crappy streets in the city! PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH!

What is up with the Sheboygan Daily and throwing people under the bus? 50% of those pictures posted are very safe sidewalks to walk on. Please use better judgement when reporting on stories. You are often doing more damage then good with your stories.
