11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
Register for 11:00 a.m. session open to all
Register for 1:00 p.m. session intended for people impacted by cancer
Join Guadalupe Maravilla for a healing sound event presented in conjunction with Guadalupe Maravilla with Emery Blagdon: The star exploding in the body. Drawing from his lived experiences as an immigrant and cancer survivor, Maravilla and a team of healers will create an immersive sonic environment that invites audiences to consider the connections between art, the body, and restorative care.
Informed by Indigenous healing practices, Maravilla uses instruments such as gongs, conch shells, and other resonant objects to activate both his sculptures and Emery Blagdon’s “Healing Machine” in participatory sound ceremonies designed to foster release, balance, and connection. Blurring the boundaries between art, science, and medicine, his work encourages a holistic understanding of wellness that is both personal and collective.
Two sessions will be offered: an 11:00 a.m. session open to all and a 1:00 p.m. session intended for people impacted by cancer, including those in treatment, survivors, family members, and caregivers. This program offers a meaningful and accessible opportunity to engage with Maravilla’s practice through sound, reflection, and community.
Yoga mats will be provided, but please feel free to bring your own comfortable surface to lie or sit down on.
